On March 13, the Xaverian Varsity Basketball Team was able to then beat Bishop Loughlin for the City Championship at Fordham University, by a score of 59-56. Towards the beginning of the season, the varsity squad lacked in size (something the Clippers would later use to their advantage) and were able to play successfully as a team. The game MVP went to Nyonty Wisseh, who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Zachary Bruno also added 18 points, and Brandon Leftwich had 13 points. With nine tenths of a second left in the game, Zach Bruno took a defensive charge against Tyrese Gaffney. In falling to the ground, Bruno showed a level of resilience that mirrored the team’s work ethic of this season; a drive, commitment, and passion that was unrivaled by any other competitors, pushing Xaverian basketball to their first championship in over a decade.  The team was ranked fourth in the league going into the playoffs but went on to win the City Championship and advanced to the New York State “AA” Semifinals in Albany.
